Response Assistant Now Understands Full Email Threads
Paste an entire back-and-forth conversation and Lightspeed will read the whole history before writing its reply — no context lost, no awkward restarts.
Until now, Response Assistant worked best with a single customer message. That's fine for first contacts, but real support is rarely that clean. Most conversations arrive as a thread — three messages in, two follow-ups deep, with context scattered across every reply.
Today we're shipping Thread, a dedicated mode in Response Assistant built exactly for this. Paste the full email thread — including every previous message from both the customer and your team — and Lightspeed will read and understand the entire conversation before generating a reply. The result is a response that picks up right where things left off, without repeating information the customer already knows or ignoring what your team has already said.
What's different
- Full thread context — The AI reads every message in the conversation before writing. It won't re-explain things already covered, and it won't contradict what your team has already committed to.
- No unnecessary greetings — A mid-thread reply doesn't need "Hi there!" Thread mode skips the opener and gets straight to the point, the way a natural follow-up should.
- Up to 20,000 characters — Thread mode supports much longer input than the standard Generator, so even lengthy conversations fit without truncation.
- Same agent instructions — You can still add quick-action chips like "Refund approved" or "Resent tickets" to give the AI the latest status before it writes.
- All the same options — Tone, length, staff name sign-off, and your organization's knowledge base all apply exactly as they do in the standard Generator.
How to use it
Thread lives in the Response Assistant sidebar, right between Generator and Quick Replies. Click it, paste your email thread, add any relevant agent instructions, and hit Generate. The AI will read the full conversation and produce a reply to the latest customer message.
If the thread is very long (over 8,000 characters), a warning will appear letting you know that older messages may be trimmed to fit. In practice, recent context matters most, and the AI prioritizes the newest messages.
Good to know
- Thread mode always uses email format — there's no Facebook variant since threads are an email-specific workflow
- Ratings and response history work the same as in the standard Generator
- Your staff name preference carries over automatically from your settings
